Concrete is one of Minecraft’s most beautiful decorating blocks and can be used in many different ways. Making concrete in Minecraft involves three simple steps including crafting, hydrating, and mining. This tutorial works on the latest version of Java or Bedrock Edition.
The dye is what gives concrete its color – so there are sixteen possibilities to choose. They go all the way from bright orange to dark blue, taking in magenta, red, cyan, gray, white and black along the way.

[1/3] Crafting The Concrete Powder Block
You will first need to collect the following materials:
- 4 Sand
- 4 Gravel
- 1 Dye (color of choice).
Once you have collected these materials bring them to a crafting table and put them in the following configuration shown in the picture below to craft the concrete powder block.
[2/3] find water & hydrate the concrete powder
Now that you have the concrete powder you will need to either find water or create an infinite water source to hydrate the concrete powder. This will turn the concrete powder block into concrete. (Show in Image)
Note: You must place the concrete powder in water, or place water on top of the concrete powder to turn it into concrete. Using rainfall or other sources will not work. It must be in direct contact with water.
[3/3] MINE WITH PICKAXE & REPEAT PROCESS
To collect and move the concrete you need to harvest it with a pickaxe. Any pickaxe will work to mine the concrete. You can also experiment with making redstone machines to use pistons to move the concrete block around once it has been hydrated with water.
How to obtain concrete faster?
To obtain concrete faster you can either repeat these steps or create a concrete maker farm (I would recommend the farm as it’s a highly efficient method if you need a lot of concrete).
In 2021, Shulkercraft posted a video titled “Minecraft Easiest Concrete Maker – 10,000 Concrete Per Hour!”. This video as of 9/29/2024 has over 1.7 million views and counting with 48,000 likes. I have personally reviewed the posted video and can confirm this is one of the easiest concrete farms to make.
Above is the referenced video from Shulker Craft. This video can be found on YouTube. Credit to Shulkercraft.
what materials do I need to build this farm?
You will need to collect the following materials to build the 10,000 Concrete Per Hour farm.
- 16 Building Blocks (Dirt or any other block).
- 2 Pieces of Redstone
- 2 Chests
- 1 Hopper
- 1 Sign
- 1 Dropper
- 1 Observer Block
- 1 Stair
How long does this take to build?
The farm should only take around 5-10 minutes to build if you are following the tutorial video. Obtaining the materials to create this farm may take longer but can be obtained relatively quickly.
can I make farming concrete blocks automatic?
Yes, you can make an automatic concrete block farmer. Another popular video uploaded by Shulker Craft with over 130,000 views as of 9/29/2024 shows a tutorial on how you can make an automatic farm that produces upwards of 54,000 concrete blocks per hour. (That’s nearly 5x more blocks compared to the manual farm). If you would like to follow this tutorial you can find the link to that video here.
